LOA- 6 mo.+ with a possible perm conversion

-Preferably a Bachelor’ s degree in a related technical field. 5 years of full-time network security and incident handling experience

- Experience working with Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto Networks networking and security solutions including routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Experience using common networking tools to aid in troubleshooting, including nmap, Wireshark, tcpdump, etc.
- Basic understanding of proxy and URL filtering services for end users.
- Basic understanding of SIEM operation.
- Expertise in common networking concepts and protocols including, but not limited to:
o TCP/UDP ports and protocols.
o OSI Model.
o Layer 2 switching concepts (spanning tree, VLAN trunking, etc.).
o Layer 3 routing concepts (routing protocols, route summarization, redistribution, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Process and detail oriented.
- Hands-on *nix experience.
- Certifications: CISSP certification preferred / required within 1 year of start date
Security Clearance: Ability to obtain Level 2 Secret (ANACI) clearance
Firewall administrator needed to assist in day-to-day operational security duties on a network security team handling Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto Networks firewalls. GDIT is seeking a Network Security Engineer to join the Security Team at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to provide secure protection of its systems and data. NLM's mission is to be the nation's primary library supporting biomedical schools across the US. 
- Coordination with various IT operations teams.
- Perform firewall security upgrades (including testing and roll-out).
- Respond and analyze security incidents and events. 
- Build, monitor, and troubleshoot SSL VPN tunnels on firewalls.
- Assist in the day-to-day operational security duties as a firewall administrator monitoring, maintaining, and implementing security policies on Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto Networks firewalls.
- Identify, evaluate, recommend, and implement information systems security tools appropriate to protecting information resources.
- On an as-needed basis, evaluate, recommend, and justify appropriate commercial off-the-shelf products that support security program requirements.
- Contribute to architectural design discussions for a secure network infrastructure that implements security controls for the perimeter, internal network, endpoints, and remote access.
- Respond and analyze security incidents and events.
